The landscape does most of the work in Hampi. Granite boulders the colour of sand pile up between temple ruins, banana fields and the river, and low sun turns the stone warm. From mid-morning the same stone throws hard heat and harsh light back at faces, so the day splits into a sunrise session and a late afternoon session with a long break between.
It is a long way from Bengaluru, which makes this a trip of at least two nights rather than a drive out. The sites are spread across both banks of the river, and moving between them takes longer than the map suggests.

The classic sunrise view; Karnataka Tourism notes that visitors climb it early to watch the sun come up over the ruins and the river. The climb is steep, over rock, and starts in the dark, so it is not one for bridal clothes or heavy kit. Pack light, carry the outfit up, and change near the top only if there is somewhere sensible to do it.

Permission and rules
Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and most of its monuments are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. In general the ASI permits still photography at monuments and requires permission for filming (ASI), and filming applications go through its SAHMAT portal. Tripods, organised or commercial shoots and any drone flight are the things to clear first. Rules and processes change, so confirm with the ASI Hampi circle office before planning, and never assume a flight is fine because nobody is watching.
Active temples such as Virupaksha set their own terms on top of that. Coracle rides and access to the river depend on the season and on local operators. Settle both before the trip rather than on the morning.
