Coorg's pre-wedding shoot locations are its coffee estates and estate homestays, Raja's Seat in Madikeri, Abbey Falls, Mandalpatti, the Harangi backwater, Dubare on the Kaveri, Omkareshwara Temple and the Namdroling Monastery at Bylakuppe, most dependable from October to March. Most of the best frames sit on private estates or forest land, so Élan Films settles the owner's or the forest department's permission before the crew drives the five to six hours from Bengaluru.
Coorg is mist, coffee and steep green hills, and most of the land that makes it look that way is either a private estate or a forest. Who owns the ground decides where you can shoot.

The hills around Madikeri catch the south-west monsoon hard, and from June to September many estate tracks, falls and viewpoints are wet, slippery or closed. October to March is the working season, the same months Karnataka Tourism's own table gives (Karnataka Tourism, updated 15 October 2026). Mornings often start in cloud that sits in the valleys and lifts within the first hour, which is the reason to be in position before sunrise rather than after breakfast.
Kodava weddings are their own tradition, and a photographer used to other South Indian ceremonies should not assume the running order. The ceremony is led by family elders rather than a priest, and the men wear the black kupya with a sash and the peeche kathi while women drape the sari with the pleats at the back. Ask the family to walk you through the order of the day before you plan any positions.

The most useful location in Coorg and all of it private. Many couples stay at an estate homestay and shoot on that property with the owner's agreement. Under the shade canopy the light is soft at midday, which is rare, but it is also dim and green, so faces need to be placed where a gap lets light through.
A garden about a kilometre west of the Madikeri bus stand and the town's sunset viewpoint, which means a crowd at exactly the hour you want it. Work the edges and the first hour after opening instead of the last. The district page publishes no timings or fee, so confirm entry and any camera rules at the gate before planning a crew there.
Karnataka Tourism lists entry from 9 AM to 5 PM, with access through private coffee plantations, a hanging bridge for the view, and no bathing or swimming. It is busy from mid-morning and loud enough that nobody will hear direction, and a couple in formal clothes with a crew will block other visitors on the narrow bridge. Best after the monsoon when the water is up, in the first slot after opening.
Grass ridges over the Pushpagiri forests, about 18 km from Madikeri, known for sunrise and sunset and reached by 4x4 jeep, which the forest department encourages visitors to use. Wide, empty and exposed, with long sightlines and no shade, so plan clothing and a change point around the jeep track. It borders protected forest, so confirm access, timings and whether an organised shoot needs permission with the forest department before planning.
A forest department area known for its elephant camp. The river bank frames are good in morning light, but elephants and camp activity are not props, and a shoot here needs the department's agreement. Confirm before planning.
The Kodagu district site describes an elephant camp opened in August 2022 on forest department land beside the Harangi reservoir backwater, next to the tree park, with pedal boats and a viewpoint built for the sunset. The backwater is the frame; the camp and its elephants are not props. A shoot near the camp is the forest department's decision, so ask before planning.
A working temple built in 1820, about a kilometre from the Madikeri bus stand. Karnataka Tourism lists it as open 6:30 AM to 12 noon and 5 PM to 8 PM every day. The tank beside it gives reflections in still morning air, but worship comes first: ask the temple office about cameras and keep any shoot outside the shrine.
An active monastery, not a set. Karnataka Tourism lists the Golden Temple as open to visitors from 9 AM to 6 PM. Photography rules inside the prayer hall and in the grounds are the monastery's to give, and a pre-wedding shoot should be discussed with them in advance. The Mysuru district's 2021 drone-zone proposal put the temple at the Bylakuppe camp in a yellow zone, so plan without an aerial. Dress and behaviour matter more here than anywhere else on this page.
Permission and rules
Coorg's land splits cleanly. Estates are private property and access is whatever the owner agrees, ideally in writing if a crew is coming. Forest areas, including the ridges and river camps, belong to the forest department, and drones and organised shoots inside them need its permission. Confirm with the estate or the forest department before planning; do not rely on what was allowed last season.
Drones deserve a separate check. Much of the district is forest or close to it, and a flight that is legal under national airspace rules can still be refused on protected land or by an estate owner. Plan the film so that it does not depend on the aerial.
Fees and rules change without much notice. Confirm with the office named above before you book anything that depends on them.
Yes, with the owner's permission, because every estate is private property. The simplest route is to stay at an estate homestay and agree the shoot with the owners when you book. Walking into an estate you are not staying at, with a crew and a change of clothes, is trespass unless it has been arranged.
It is a gamble. From June to September the district gets heavy rain, tracks and viewpoints can close, and leeches are real on estate paths. The green is at its deepest, but you cannot hold to a schedule. October to March is the dependable season if the dates are fixed.

The shoot itself sits in the observed market band for a local pre-wedding half-day, ₹25,000 to ₹90,000 (September 2026; the market, not a rate card). Coorg is five to six hours from Bengaluru, so the crew usually stays, and travel and stay are added as their own line; observed destination shoots, where the crew travels and stays, run ₹1,00,000 to ₹4,00,000. Any estate or homestay charge for the shoot is set by the owner.
