Candid gives you how the day felt, and risks missing people who never did anything photographable.

Most weddings do, and it is usually one team covering both rather than two teams. The family group portraits need direction and a dedicated time slot; everything else is better observed. A wedding covered only candidly typically has no usable family portrait, which is the single most common regret couples report.

What you cannot have is a schedule — you shoot in the gaps, you carry cover for the gear, and you accept that a fixed two-hour slot may not happen. December to March if you are shooting the south and west — Galle, Bentota, Mirissa, Colombo — which is what most Indian couples want. May to September if you are going to the east coast instead. The hill country around Ella and Nuwara Eliya works through most of the year and is driest from January to March.
