How does a Bengaluru wedding day run for the photographer?

A typical Bengaluru wedding day follows a familiar shape: getting ready at home or in a hotel room, the groom's arrival at the kalyana mantapa, the muhurtham, lunch, and a reception in the evening. The order and the rituals change from family to family, and a Vokkaliga, Lingayat, Brahmin, Tamil, Telugu-speaking or Christian family in Bengaluru will each run the morning differently. The hour that goes missing most often is the one where the bride is getting ready in one building and the groom's procession is arriving at another. One photographer cannot be in both places, and in Bengaluru traffic an eleven-kilometre move can take fifty minutes.

What light do you get in a kalyana mantapa compared with a hotel?

• Kalyana mantapa: tube lights or mixed LED, a canopy over the couple that blocks the ceiling light, and a hall full to the walls. It needs a light placed before the hall fills and a position agreed with the family and priest.
• Hotel ballroom: steadier light, but reception stages are lit for guests' eyes in magenta or blue wash. Somebody has to decide before the event how faces should look.
• Garden or farmhouse venue on the city edge: good daylight until it is gone, and it goes fast here. Plan the couple portraits for the last usable hour, not after dinner.

How many photographers does a Bengaluru wedding need?

Count the moments that happen at the same time, not the guests. A single-venue wedding where everyone gets ready on site can work with one photographer and an assistant. A wedding where the families prepare at home in different parts of the city needs a second shooter for those hours. Film needs its own crew. Pre-wedding shoots and weddings outside the city

Inside the city and a morning's drive: Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, Nandi Hills and Hesaraghatta, each with its own permission and crowd problem (Bengaluru pre-wedding locations). Further out: Mysuru, Coorg, Chikmagalur, Sakleshpur, Kabini and Hampi. Outside Bengaluru, crew travel and stay are added as their own visible line.
